BARCINO is a chocolate packaging design for the master chocolatier, Enric Rovira, inspired by Barcelona's old Roman history, to be distributed in flights to the tourists arriving in Barcelona. The concept originates from the sculpture created by the Catalan artist, Joan Brossa, in 1992. The visual poem is located in front of the Barcelona's Roman Wall, where the aqueduct once entered the city. This curious sculpture which blends in perfectly with the city's most ancient stones, spells out the word BARCINO, the Roman name of Barcelona and is the artist's tribute to the ancient colony.

The packaging graphic encapsulates the personality of the structure which while blending with the ancient Roman remains creates a perspective-play with its surroundings.  It is a translation of the sculpture into a two-dimensional visual poetry- a dramatic interaction between the letters.

The texture of the box imitates the structure of the columns of the Roman Temple dedicated to Emperor Augustus- the founder of the Barcino colony.
Unique box opening
The box slides open through both ends - spreading it's arms wide open welcoming the tourist to Barcelona. While the conventional right end slides open with history, the mini chocolate slides out from the other end leaving the tourist pleasantly surprised!
